Early History of the Montgomery Area Historical Society

The incorporation of the Montgomery Area Historical Society in 2005 followed several years of planning by enthusiastic citizens. Early meetings included aid and encouragement from both Muncy and East Lycoming Historical Societies, along with financial support from Montgomery Borough and the townships of Brady, Clinton, and Washington.

While we searched for a location to house the items of historic interest we were accumulating, the former Adam Print Shop became available for rent from the Montgomery Area Public Library. That room is now known as The Adam Room in memory of the Adam's family who operated the old print shop, and in memory of The Rev. Adam Bingaman. Rev. Bingaman who was one of the principal organizers of the first Montgomery Area Historical Society and author of the booklet “How Montgomery Got its Name”.

We continue to accept items of historic interest and strive to preserve and display them to visitors. If you want to reach out to us, head to our contact page and fill out our form.
